Welcome to Child Matters | Teen Matters

Child Matters began in 2000 as a partnership between two clinical psychologists, Dr Felicity Adams and Sharon Mitchell. With a modest beginning, they juggled all administrative tasks while attending to clients from their cozy location on Kent Street in Busselton.

Fast forward to 2015, and the dynamic duo decided it was time to grow. Relocating to more spacious premises equipped with a sensory gym area, they took a significant step forward by welcoming their first Occupational Therapist on board, enhancing the range of services they offered.

It was the advent of the NDIS that presented Felicity with an extraordinary opportunity to realise her long-held vision of establishing a comprehensive multi-disciplinary practice. With Sharon wanting to explore other opportunities, Felicity took the helm and started growing the organisation as we know it today, striving to positively impact the lives of even more families and children across the South West.

The commitment to providing comprehensive services for our clients has led to further expansion of our team over the years. Starting with the hiring of our first intern psychologist in 2017 and our first Speech Pathologist in 2019, we gradually added more professionals to meet the diverse needs of our clients. With the inclusion of additional psychologists, a family capacity building counsellor, and allied health therapy assistants, our practice has flourished.

Not only has Felicity prioritised the growth of our team, but she has also taken on the responsibility of supervising both internal psychology registrars and those from other agencies. By doing so, she has ensured that our practice has maintained the highest standards of care and provided a supportive environment for learning and professional development.

Recognising the importance of catering to a wide range of clients, Teen Matters was introduced in 2018 to address the unique needs of adolescents. This additional service offering allows our practice to reach even more young people in need of specialized assistance.

In 2020, with an eye toward future growth and expansion, we seized the opportunity to purchase the adjoining property. This paved the way for a significant renovation, which began in 2022. Throughout this process, our team temporarily moved into alternative premises, eagerly anticipating our return to our newly transformed home. January 2023 marked a milestone as we returned to our beautifully renovated premises at 94 Duchess Street. Equipped with a upgraded sensory gym, spacious group areas, therapy rooms, and inviting staff zones, our new space not only enhanced the comfort and functionality of our practice but also added to the overall ambiance.

Our dedication to providing excellent care and continuously improving our practice has positioned our team to serve our clients with the utmost commitment and professionalism. We hope to support our clients to thrive for many years to come, and welcome you to join us on our journey!
